Ques:1 What are the different data entry modules available for NREGA?
Ans: We have different module with different purposes for NREGA. It can be broadly classified into 2 categories.
a)MPR
b)MIS
MPR: Monthly progress Report. This is the data entry module for monthly progress in NREGA district wise. It has to be entered by the district officials once in a month during the first week of each month.
MIS: This is MIS of NREGA. This is where we can do the data entry for family registration, issuing job card, work details, wage payment details etc. There are different ways of doing this.
1. Offline
2. Online.
Ques:2.What do you mean by offline software for NREGA & Online software for NREGA?
Ans: NREGA software can be made operational by 2 ways.
a)Online
b)Offline
Online: Here we do the entire operation of NREGA MIS activities by logging to NREGA web site. Hence the name Online.
Offline: If you have locally installed software of NREGA then this is called as Offline version of the software.
Ques:3.What is the latest version of NREGA Offline software?
Ans: Current version of Offline software is NREGA 3.1. You will come to know about it during the installation.
Ques:4.How often new software versions are released?
Ans: It is not frequent. If a new version is released it will be intimated to respective districts immediately.
Ques:5.What if we do not update the latest software version?  
Ans: The National Server at Delhi might not accept your data when you upload them.
Ques:6What is the minimum requirement for going Online data entry?
Ans: A broadband internet connection and a Pentium based system with Internet Explorer are more than sufficient.
Ques:7What is the minimum requirement for going Offline data entry?
Ans: Windows based Pentium System, preferably windows XP SP-2 Operating System with IIS installed and MSDE 2000.
Que:8Can we go for both online & Offline software at once?
Ans: No, once you decided to go for online stick to it. If you go for offline only you need to send the data regularly to National Server at Delhi. Going for offline or Online data entry is policy decision of respective district.
Ques:9 What is the difference between MPR & MIS in NREGA?
Ans: It is different. MPR is monthly progress report suppose to be entered at the district level.
MIS is the details of registration, work demand, allocation etc. This is a continuous process.
Que:10 What is the password for MPR & MIS for my District and where do I get the password?
Ans: The login for MIS & MPR for the district Program Coordinator is same.
There is unique password assigned to each district for MPR & MIS. This is used for following purposes.
a) Data entry at DPC level (District Program Coordinator).
b) To View ICT infrastructure details
c) Reports from MIS
d) Comparison reports of MIS Vs MPR
e) MIS Analytical reports.
f) Location with absence of NREGA Progress like locations with no registration, location with no job card issued etc.
g) Alerts like list of persons to whom job card is not yet issued, delayed payment etc.
h) Monthly progress report for the given financial year.
Passwords are made available to all NIC district officials with a copy to DPC.
Ques:11 What is the password for MPR for my Block?
Ans: There is no need of any data entry at Block level for MPR. However there is a data entry module available at DPC/District level only.
Ques:12 What is the password for MIS for my Block?
Ans: After selecting State/District/Block and Entered by (the one who enters the details at block level. Here only name of the official entering the details needs to be entered) a unique Block password issued to your block needs to be entered.
This password has been supplied to your respective PO (Program officer), who is Executive officer of your block. Alternatively you can also obtain it from your District NIC official.
Ques:13 What is the password for MIS for my Panchayat?
Ans: After selecting State/District/Block/Panchayat and Entered by (the one who enters the details at panchayat level. Here only name of the official entering the details needs to be entered) a unique panchayat password issued to your panchayat needs to be entered.
This password has been supplied to your respective PO (Program officer), who is Executive officer of your block. Alternatively you can also obtain it from your District NIC official.
Ques:14 Why and where should I change the password?
Ans: You can change the password by choosing change password option in the login screen. Caution: If you change the password intimate the changed password to your respective Officers at block and district level (EO, DPC, NIC officer).
If you forget the password then it is difficult to retrieve the password immediately. So kindly exercise extreme care before choosing this option!!!
Ques:15 What is the best-suited mode of action for MIS data entry? (Online or Offline?)
Ans: This is policy decision to be taken by the DPC in consultation with State NREGA Cell.
Ques:16 Can we do the MIS data entry at Block level for Panchayats? (Offline/ Online)
Ans: Offline: In case of Offline data entry the offline software must be installed at the Block level. During installation it will install all the Panchayats of that Block.
Online: In case of Online data entry, based on internet connectivity one can do the data entry either at GP itself or at Block or at District level using the Panchayat level password.
Ques:17 How to take care of sending the data to Delhi if we do the data entry offline?
Ans: In the offline software there are 2 data entry screens.
a) Data entry for Gram panchayat
b) Data entry at Program Officer.
In data entry at Program officer level there is a provision to Export and Backup data for uploading.
After selecting this option an incremental data export happens and appropriate message is flashed on the screen. The back file is stored on c:\nregabackup folder. The backup file name is like KN1523001_nregaupload_05062008.bak’.
Ques:18 Where to get the upload password for MIS data?
Ans: This is available with DPC/PO/NIC official of your district.
Ques:19 How to take the daily backup of NREGA? (Offline)
Ans: In NREGA folder, there are 2 batch files to take NREGA database backup and NREGA upload database backup. The batch file names are
a) BackupNrega.bat for NREGA database backup
b) BackupNregaupload for NREGA upload database backup.
Before executing these batch files one has to create a folder called NREGABACKUP in c:\
Once you execute the batch files following backup files were created.
a) NregaData for NREGA database
b) NregaDataUpload for NREGA Upload database.
This will be overwritten every time whenever you use the backup option.
You need to maintain the daily backup for safety purpose. This needs to be taken in any external devices such as CD. To do so, kindly rename the backup up taken with date before running the batch file for next day.
Ex. NregaData (backup file name)
Rename it to NregaData_02062008 and store it in a CD or in some other system.
Ques:20 How to ensure that my data has been sent to Delhi?
Ans: There is a provision to check the status of data sent and upload status.
Ques:21 How to secure my m/c if we are going for Offline data entry?
Ans: You should control the access to your sever by restricting the users.
By taking regular backup of the databases
By avoiding excessive use of Pen drives / CDs etc.
By installing latest anti virus software.
By regularly updating the anti virus paths.
By controlling entry access to computer room.
Ques:22 How to secure my m/c if we are going for Online data entry?
Ans: Passwords should not be disclosed at any unauthorized persons.
Avoid dummy data entry on National Server.
By installing latest anti virus software.
By regularly updating the anti virus paths.
By controlling entry access to computer room.
Ques:23 Why NREGA software is not coming up in my local m/c? We are currently using offline data entry for MIS.
Ans: Check whether your IIS web service is running on your server or not? How to Check this?
Open your web browser (Internet Explorer) and in the address bar enter the following http://localhost/.
You should get a Default web page and in that it should display
Your Web service is now running.
If this is working then check for
http://localhost/nrega/home.asp
If this is not working then check the spelling typed by you.
Ques:24 Why we are not able to access NREGA site?
Ans: Check your internet connections. Check the telephone line. If everything seems to be alright then check for another web sites like http://www.yahoo.co.in/.
